South Sudan like other communities is a recipe of related turns and authority that at times requires firm societal brakes to preserve her not to be sidetracked from her indigenous path by modern political mechanics. The forth revitalized agreement (R.ARCSS) sweetens our ears, and kindles new hope to many local citizens who are not enjoying their human liberties across the country since the government is unable to protect them (citizens); provide impartial justice, and amply administer its official procedure linked to sustainable peace.
From day one since initiation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), I collected quite a few views from social forums and gatherings on the possibility of the revitalized agreement to restore the forgotten guiding principles that led South Sudan to gain her independence, and to ameliorate her diminishing integrity from socio-political and economic hurdles. But sadly, what I got were variable answers that relied on what is enshrined in the agreement paper not what is in the hearts of South Sudanese political front-liners who are, in other words, the parties to the agreement, and their cohorts in their generality.
Honestly, South Sudanese people are trapped to an illness that they deceitfully refer to be the remedy to their problem. This illness is HYPOCRISY. Like government and rebels, citizens are folded into gravels of tribal brats in which their actual mindset is severely drained off by tribalism. Bitterly, a South Sudanese’s political party is his/her tribe. Trust me; it is a bitter truth in the face of the 21st century!
What a nation like South Sudan needs at such highest point of her political and economic volatility is not a two-faced peace accord, which can be short-lived. Instead, it should be a citizen-based peace deal that has its foundation within the citizenry. In other words, it’s a kind of peace whereby local citizens are concerned, and involved to have sheer responsibilities to become the prime stakeholders during its implementation. But now in South Sudan, it’s the opposite, you still find organized groups, social movements, interest groups, and individuals who are supposed to be autonomous from influence of government, as well as the rebels preaching hate speech and segregating remarks in reference to their tribal line. Now where would peace work when we have not refreshed our thoughts? A sustainable peace is not gotten through bumpy and dilapidated paths. It is not gotten that way, wallai!
What spoils peace agreements in South Sudan is not because they’re not well mediated by their usual mediators. To my understanding, the problem is that they fall in a trajectory whereby political insincerity and tribalism interconnect. So, it would be difficult for South Sudanese people to hold peace since their thoughts are contrary to what peace agreement says. They lack receptors for peace in their minds simply because they are blinded by tribal myopia.
Let me tell you, did you know that the “NATIONAL PRAYER” and the “NATIONAL DIALOGUE” didn’t generate any substance because they germinated on a corroded political drive. And that is what I referred to as ‘HYPOCRISY’ in the third paragraph of this article. So, what do you think about the revitalized peace agreement? The government, rebels and their sympathizers are not honest, and indeed not ready to bring peace to this country. South Sudan will only be in peace when South Sudanese people changed their tribal mindset and embrace nationalism.
